Meet Riverside's Associate Pastor Dennis Nix

   Pastor Dennis became Riverside's first associate pastor in March 2003. One of the founding members of the church, Pastor Dennis was called to full-time ministry and is in seminary at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's North Georgia Campus.

   “I've had other people tell me how they saw the call on my life—family, co-workers, acquaintances,” says Pastor Dennis. 

   “I've had pastors tell me, ‘Try to do everything else before going into the ministry'." After 22 years working in retail, he left his full-time job to invest his work into full-time in ministry.

   “I see my role as associate pastor at Riverside primarily to support the senior pastor,” Pastor Dennis says referring to mostly administrative duties. “I love the people at Riverside! I work side by side Pastor Joe somewhat, but I'm more of a support.

   “I am preaching more and enjoy the whole process of preparing and studying,” he says. “I have had the opportunity to do a lot of counseling and have been able to lead some to Christ through these sessions.

   “I feel that the Lord has used me to hold some marriages together. This may be the part of ministry that I enjoy the most,” Pastor Dennis says.

   Some of Pastor Dennis' other duties are overseeing home groups, which takes much of his time and energy. He is also involved in planning and organizing discipleship and helping Pastor Joe in making hospital visits, etc. He has been key in overseeing the construction of the church's first large facility to be completed December 2004.

   "I love working with Pastor Dennis," says Riverside's Senior Pastor Joe Wood. "I have all the confidence in the world in him.  He is reliable, diligent, very capable and the most sincere person I know."

   In spending just a little time with Pastor Dennis and his wife Janie, one quickly recognizes their love for their family. Their older son Spence, his wife Amanda and their two young children, Elizabeth and Evan, live close by. Their younger son Russ and his wife Amy also live in the area.
